Clinical Example: Neurofibroma of fingertip pulp space
Neurofibromas of the hand are usually associated with
neurofibromatosis. Less commonly, solitary neurofibromas
represent spontaneous nerve sheath myxomas, also called Pacinian
neurofibroma.

This painless fingertip pulp tumor had developed slowly over nearly ten years. |
Plain Radiographs demonstrate soft tissue swelling only. |
Anticipating the need for skin resection, a primary zigzag incision was used. |
Unlike congenital
neurofibromatosis, there was a clear plane between dermis and tumor.
The digital nerves were stretched and flattened onto the surface of the
tumor. |
Final closure after excision of redundant skin. |
