Chronic pain syndrome Discussion

Chronic pain syndrome: Patients with chronic pain of any etiology are more likely to have difficulty with intrinsic pain coping mechanisms. A subgroup of patients with chronic pain have moderate degrees of pain which are aggravated by psychological, cultural or other physical factors. Unless a straightforward treatable diagnosis is established, patients with chronic pain will have a high failure rate in response to treatment for a presumed painful anatomic problem. The realistic goals of management in this situation are humane rather than curative.
